Step Back and Turn Around

“New beginnings are often disguised as painful endings.”

Lao Tzu

You didn’t get into the college of your dreams.

Your shining knight never showed up.

You were passed up for a promotion at work.

Your recent diagnosis scrapped plans to buy that dream home on the lake.

There’s no doubt you’ve experienced closed doors in your life. Some may have slammed in your face.

It hurts, doesn’t it?

But the problem isn’t the fact that doors close on us, or even that they hurt us. It’s that we don’t notice the doors that open at the same time. It’s the one you never see because it’s quietly opening behind you while your gaze is fixed on the closed door.

Step back from the long closed door.

Turn around and open yourself to opportunities you could never have imagined or planned.

Step back.

Turn around.

Step back.

Turn around.

Train your body to do it. Commit it to muscle memory. Don’t think your way through it because you won’t remember in the moment. The pain is simply too distracting.

But no matter how much it hurts, you can step back and turn around.

Do this and be witness to the magic that is your life.

  • Thank you, Cylon.
    Good advice – as usual!
I do try and am conscious that others have far worse challenges. That inspires me.
Wishing you and yours a joyful week.
