Death, Taxes, and Change

“Change is not merely necessary to life – it is life.”

Alvin Toffler

Are you one to resist change?

I know I am. I need to do things the same way each and every day.

I need others to stay the same.

I need circumstances to stay the same.

I need life to stay the same. It gives me a sense of security, certainty, and control

Life is good when I can achieve this feeling. By now I know it’s just an illusion, but I still crave creating the feeling of security. It’s a survival instinct buried deep within us.

Unfortunately though, when change comes as it inevitably does, we’re unprepared. We lose our footing. We become afraid. We become angry or disillusioned. We don’t know how to respond, pivot, or adapt.

This is how species die.

This is how extinction happens.

Is it possible that change, as inevitable as death and taxes, could be a lifeline instead of a threat?

  • Excellent topic! Thank you, Cylon.
Change is vital. Change is life. And like you, I rather regret it! Thank you for being honest – all is not lost!
We might be absurd – imperfect creatures that we are – but at least we are aware and trying.
I am wishing you and yours well.

  • You are such an inspiration! Funny, I seem to crave change… when I mow the lawn, I can’t just go back and forth, sometimes I have to do circles, or go diagonally – then square it all off… etc. I even have to change up the way I pray. But when it comes to changes not of my choosing, I’m not a happy camper. If I’m warned of changes coming, I usually come around to acceptance by the time it gets here. Your last line is profound… change as a lifeline rather than threat…
