A Self-Compassion Practice

Picture this.

You’ve taken on a new goal in order to improve your life. You’re excited to start building new habits toward accomplishing this goal.

But after just a few weeks, maybe even a few days, you start losing momentum. Life starts to crowd in again. After about a month, you’ve completely forgotten about the commitment you made to this worthy goal. You’ve forgotten why taking on the practice was so important to you in the beginning.

However, every once in a while you remember. And each time you remember, you feel bad about yourself. But you don’t have to. Use the practice in this video to help you get back on track.

  • Hi Cylon,
Thank you very much for your ‘tactic.’
I tend to beat myself up when I let myself down (frequently!) so am grateful for this suggestion. Might help to prevent me getting into a spiral of self-dislike followed by self-punishment – self, self, self! And thus ending up in the exact opposite place to where I want and intended to be.
    Good work!
    Thank you.

    • You’re welcome Zara…yes, so easy to fall into the self death spiral! This trick helps me from falling in, or clawing my way out if I haven’t already fallen too far! I’m glad you found it helpful 🙂

  • You are awesome, I like it way better than just reading and I agree, we all need to learn to celebrate things more. When I was young, we were not Catholic, but a lot in our neighborhood. Tradition at the time was fish Friday. When I asked my mom she said pick a day and give up she mething you enjoy n rememberance of the Lord. Please do not complain all day Friday, that you really want a burger. The idea here is to make a conscious sacrifice to show the Lord how much you love Him. I think it is good that you speak about some traditions we practice that have lost their meaning and intent. Surely our Father loves us and would not want us berating ourselves. I am no officianado but I think you may be a vlog natural and congratulations n the new endeavor. I very much enjoyed the face and voice with the thoughts.
May you always know loving kindness Sandy ICE
