How to Boost Your Confidence in Social Settings

So you’re in a room full of people at a social gathering.

Everybody seems to know each other and there are lively conversations all around.

But no one’s noticed you and you’ve been standing by yourself for the last 20 minutes.

How do you feel? What do you do?

I don’t know about you, but I’ve been in this situation too many times to count. It feels pretty awful to not be seen or noticed. That’s why I put together this little video to help you overcome the dread of attending social functions with people you don’t know.

  • I’ve done this myself. I think of it like jumping in a pool.It works. Ihave to talk myself into it each time but it works
P.S. my brother &Iboth studderred as kids. My mom did us the biggest help by not allowing anyone else to finish our sentences.

    • Hi Cheryl, Yes, definitely like jumping in a pool…in water that’s just a little too cold! Your mom certainly did you and your brother a favor! I had that struggle with some people in my life growing up. Thanks for sharing.

  • This is my struggle too! You probably would never think of me as shy, but I am… painfully so, in new or strange venues. In fact, even though I felt comfortable on the small ship cruise in Maine, I still sent Joe, first, into the dining room. I let him approach the others and ask if we could sit with them. Yes, I am a coward! I just finished writing a talk that I will be giving on a retreat at the end of September. I’m going to send it to you, and then you can tell me to practice what I preach! I’ll send it to you shortly. It takes me between 27 and 28 minutes to present it, but it should be a fairly quick read. Between preaching to the choir (myself) in my talk, and your video on confidence in social settings, I hope to grow in confidence to practice what I preach!
